Teeth Whitening in Murfreesboro, TN

Looking for a simple way to improve your smile and have whiter teeth? Professional teeth whitening at Magnolia Dental Group in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, safely and effectively brighten your teeth so you can feel better about your smile. Dental professionals examine your teeth, discuss your dental health, and then help you choose the best way to whiten your teeth.

What Causes Teeth to Stain?

Beverages such as coffee, tea, dark soda, and red wine tend to stain teeth. Tobacco products are another major contributor to teeth staining. Some medications also have the side effect of staining your teeth. Other factors that may change the color of your teeth include your age and your family’s genetics. Some stains can be whitened with professional teeth-whitening methods, but others cannot. Dr. Scruggs will examine your teeth and determine what the next steps are.

Who is a Good Candidate for Teeth Whitening?

You may be a good candidate for our professional teeth whitening services if you are a younger adult whose teeth are not yellowed due to age or worn-out enamel. You should have healthy teeth without any untreated gum disease or cavities. Professional teeth whitening treatments may not be recommended if you have very sensitive teeth. Finally, good candidates for teeth whitening services usually have yellow stains, not brown, purple, or gray.

What is the Difference Between Professional Whitening and At-Home Whitening?

While some at-home whitening kits you buy at the store can be successful, we believe it is important to have a dental exam first to ensure your teeth are healthy before whitening them. You will also want your teeth professionally cleaned before the whitening so that you do not waste your money trying to whiten areas of your teeth that are not clean and will not whiten.

Teeth Whitening at Magnolia Dental Group

At Magnolia Dental Group, we offer detailed exams and treatment options for teeth whitening based on your needs. We have a couple of options available. We often use a professional-only Pola whitening kit with sensitivity molecules built in to counteract some of the sensitivity problems you might get from teeth whitening. We also use a Colgate professional strength whitening kit.

    Dental Whitening Process

We always begin the process with an examination of your teeth. Your teeth must be healthy before they are whitened. Then, we will discuss your options. Teeth whitening kits at our office include:

    • Professional grade whitening gel with refills
    • Trays
    • An activation light, if necessary.

Whitening is performed by placing the gel in a tray and wearing it once or twice a day for 5-7 days, depending on your specific case.

How Long Will Teeth Whitening Last?

Many factors determine how long your tooth whitening will last. If you drink a lot of colored beverages, such as soda, wine, or coffee, the color may fade in a month or so. If you have good oral hygiene and do not drink many colored beverages, the whitening may last six months or longer. Brush and floss your teeth daily as normal. Most kits come with refill gel, so you can touch up your whitening in the future if needed. After professional teeth whitening, Dr. Scruggs may ask you to use specific toothpaste for sensitivity to ensure your teeth are not too sensitive after the whitening process.

    Is Professional Teeth Whitening Painful?

In-office teeth whitening or using the whitening kits are not painful, but the whitening gels may cause some tooth sensitivity. Our dental office is available with any questions or concerns about the process. Additionally, feel free to contact our office to ask about the specific costs of our treatment and procedures.
